Grace A. Burkhard

Grace A. Burkhard, 93 of Harbor Beach, passed away on January 12, 2025 at her daughter and son-in-law home in Lyons, Michigan, under Gentiva Hospice Care. She was born on March 29, 1931 to the late Bernard and Cecelia (Wipping) Holdwick of Ruth. Grace graduated from Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic High School in 1948. She was united in marriage to Delbert W. Burkhard on August 29, 1953. They were married for 64 years. He preceded her in death on January 1, 2017. Grace worked on the family farm raising calves and chickens. She enjoyed her garden, making many loaves of bread and the occasional doughnuts. Later in life when farming slowed down, she read many books. After raising her children, she went to work at the Harbor House making and delivering Meals on Wheels. Grace was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aide. She also enjoyed her siblings and in laws in a good game of euchre. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Grace is survived by her children: Larry Burkhard of Tuscon, AZ, Douglas Burkhard of Harbor Beach, Duane Burkhard of Lewiston, Karen (Doug) Mixter of Lyons, son in law Mike Kritzman of Bad Axe, special family members: Bev Burkhard and Charlene Burkhard, her grandchildren: Cory Burkhard, Katie Nunez, Ryan (Maureen) Burkhard, Dawn (Bryce) VanVliet, Derek (Alicia) Burkhard, Curtis (Special Friend Madelyn) Burkhard, James (Amy) Mixter, Richard Mixter, great grandchildren: Jaidyn & Ryker VanVliet, Madelyn & Lucy Burkahrd, Elliana and Ava Burkhard and Kacey Mixter. Grace is also survived by her brother Bernard Holdwick and sister Millie Kaufman, sisters-in-law: Beverly Forstner of Durand, Dorothy Burkhard of Harbor Beach, Betty Burkhard of Bad Axe along with many nieces and nephews. Grace was preceded in death by her husband Delbert, children: Ken Burkhard and Cheryl Kritzman, grandchildren: Alexandra Burkhard and Gregory Nunez, Sisters and Brothers-in-law: Catherine Holdwick, Lucy (Louis) Moore, Doris (Russell) Bowers, Delores (Lowell) Messing, Lavern Kaufman, Violet Holdwick, Patrick and Margaret Jurgess, Roland & Esther Burkhard, Harold Burkhard, Edwin and Bernice Burkhard, Grace M. Burkhard, Alexander and Donna Burkhard, Harley and Angeline Burkhard, Leslie and Dottie Burkhard, Emily and James Smith, Elaine LaBelle, and Robert Burkhard. Funeral services for Grace will be Friday, January 17, 2025 at 11 am at the Ramsey Funeral Home of Harbor Beach, with Rev. Matthew Durance officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery. Visitation for Grace will be on Friday, beginning at 9 am until time of services at 11 am.
