Helen J. Maurer

Helen Maurer, age 92, of Ruth passed away July 29, 2024 after a short stay at Meadow Lane, Bad Axe with her family by her side. Helen was born March 12, 1932, at home on Minden Road, Parisville, MI. She was the daughter of the late Lucy (Gwisdalla) Robins and resided at home with her grandmother Anna (Gwisdalla) Lemanski. She was united in marriage to Lester J. Maurer, August 9, 1950 at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church of Ruth. He preceded her in death on September 9, 1998 after 48 years of marriage. Helen belonged to Holy Apostles Parish of SSPP Church where she was a member of the Confraternity of Christian Mothers & Women. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, embroidery and was proud of her well-kept home and yard. Helen was a past member of the Tip of The Thumb and Thumb Dance Club; and Sherman Township Trustee. She was a current member of the Rubie Red Hats of Ruth, and Harbor Beach. Helen is survived by her children: Lawrence (Patt) Maurer; Linda (Dennis) Schumacher; Richard Maurer; and Joyce (Randy) Susalla. Sixteen grandchildren: Nicole (Jeremy) Melnik; Michelle (Ron) Hartel; Jennifer (Shane) Ferrell; and Rachal (Kurtis) Trigger. Jason (Connie) Schumacher; Angela Schumacher; Christopher (Becky) Schumacher; and Joshua (Christine) Schumacher. Tammy (Scott) Messing; and Shelly (Michael) Stotler. Kyle Maurer; Lester Maurer; and C.J. (Megan) Maurer. Janelle (Benjamin) Gusa; Alicia (Kurt) Dhyse; and Chandra (David) Rutkowski. And thirty-three great grandchildren. She is survived by her foster siblings: Arlene Michaud and Joyce Capling; She was preceded in death by: Daughter, Jeanie Ferriby; her Sister, Andrea Irish; Mother; Grandmother; Foster parents, Joseph and Anastasia Gwisdalla; and foster siblings, Jerry Gwisdalla, Roseline Carey, Marion Susalla, Jeanette Little and Gladys Schock. The Mass of Christian burial will take place Friday, August 2, 2024 at Saints Peter & Paul Church, Ruth at 11:00 a.m. with visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Father Sunil Pallela will officiate. Burial will be at Saints Peter & Paul Cemetery, Ruth. Visitation will be held at Ramsey Funeral Home of Harbor Beach, Thursday, August 1, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Rosary will be said by the Christian Mothers & Women at 4:30 p.m. Heartfelt appreciation to Compassus Hospice nurses and aid. Your guidance, support and tender care for mom was phenomenal! Memorial contributions can be made to the family discretionary memorial or the donor’s choice.
