Warren S. Eilber

WARREN S. EILBER, age 85 of Port Hope, passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at Covenant Cooper in Saginaw. He was born in Harbor Beach on August 12, 1927 to the late Roland and Lila (Wheeler) Eilber. On April 21, 1951 he was united in marriage to Norma M. Gallarno at the Port Hope United Methodist Church. Warren attended the Port Hope Community Schools and graduated in 1945. He then entered the US Navy. Upon being discharged from the Navy in 1946, he attended Alma College. In 1947 he was employed at the State Bank of Port Hope. During 1951 he was called for Active duty due to the Korean War. He was discharged from the Navy in October of 1953. He resumed employment at the State Bank of Port Hope through his retirement in 1995. He stayed active in banking by serving as a member of the Board of Directors of Signature Bank. Upon the death of Roland Eilber in 1955, he took over the Eilber Insurance Agency and operated that until 1995. During his working career he was President & Director of the State Bank of Port Hope, Director of First of Huron Corp, First National Bank of Bad Axe and Signature Bank, Director and Treasurer of Citizens Community Corrections of Bad Axe, Treasurer of AmVets Post 115 Memorial Building Association. He was a member of and served as Trustee of the Port Hope United Methodist Church. He liked sports of all types and especially enjoyed any opportunity to golf. Many knew him as a regular on Thursday at Verona Hills Golf Club. As an avid Detroit Tigers fan, he believed that Miguel Cabrera should be this year’s MVP. He dearly loved his family and enjoyed many nights playing cards with them. In addition to his wife of 61 years, Norma, Warren is survived by a son Gregg Eilber and his wife Terri Lynn of Caseville, daughter Paula Gust and her husband Michael of Port Hope, six grandchildren: Ashley, Blake, Shawn, Sam, Gregg Jr. and Kayla; and three great grandchildren. Funeral Services for Warren will be Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 11 am, at the Ramsey Funeral Home of Harbor Beach, with Rev. Mark Ryan officiating. Burial will follow in the Port Hope Cemetery. Visitation for Warren will be Friday, from 1-9pm in the funeral home, and on Saturday beginning at 10 am until time of services at 11am. Memorials may be given to the Port Hope United Methodist Church, and the AmVets Post 115 of Port Hope.
