Debra Geiger

February 8, 1960 - August 27, 2021

Debra Ann Geiger, 61, passed away on August 27, 2021 surrounded by family and friends at home following a brief battle with leukemia. Debra was born February 8, 1960 to the late Eugene and Dian Volmering. Debra graduated from Harbor Beach High School in 1978 and shortly thereafter, went on to start her lifelong career at Harbor Beach Community Hospital. Her career in healthcare started as a nursing assistant. In 1996, Debra earned her nursing degree and eventually became the Director of Nursing. Debra loved her job and her dedication to the hospital was evident to all those who knew her. Debra married the love of her life Dale on January 20, 1979. They built an amazing life together, always supporting one another to pursue each other’s dreams. They raised four children together and were a prime example to them of what true love is. Debra loved spending time with family and friends. She was one of ten children, so large and loud extended family gatherings were a must. Debra made sure to continue those traditions with her own children and grandchildren--from bouncy houses to simply staying at a hotel so the grandkids could play and swim together. Debra enjoyed cooking and will be forever remembered for her homemade bread, cinnamon rolls, and donuts. She loved animals and even in her last days, looked forward to coming home to spoil them. Debra treated those around her like family and would do just about anything to help someone even if it meant that she had to make sacrifices herself. She never backed down from a challenge; she would just put her head down, work hard, and push through. Her memory will be kept alive and cherished by her husband Dale and four children: Keith (Richelle) Geiger of Ruth, Jill (Matthew) Wilcox of Saginaw, Kevin Geiger (Katie) of Ruth, and Andrea (Justin) Messing of Ruth, 11 grandchildren: Dalton, Krista, Richaela, and Ryan (Geiger); Hannah, Ella, Logan and Khloe (Wilcox); Maverick, Madelyn, and McKenzie (Messing), siblings: James (Denise) Volmering of Tucson, AZ, Brad (Ellynne) Volmering of Palms, Steven (Donna) Volmering of Harbor Beach, Michael (Rhonda) Volmering of Harbor Beach, Michele (Chris) Grekowicz of Harbor Beach, Bryce Volmering of Michigan, Lynn (Kurt) Kern of Bridgeport, Lisa (Brent) Moeggenborg of St. Johns, John (Christy) Volmering of Midland, brother and sister-in-law’s: Robert (Pauline) Geiger of Stuart, FL, Gary (Marileen) Geiger of Harbor Beach, Ronald (Michelle) Geiger of Dunedin, FL, Sharon (Edward) Barry of Bay City, and Debbie (Jonathan) Loesel of Clare; and many nieces and nephews. Debra was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Dian Volmering; mother and father-in-law’s Bernard and Eleanor Geiger; sister-in-law’s Arlene (Halifax) and Cheryl (Guitar); and niece Lori Geiger. Funeral Mass for Debra will be Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at 11 am at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, of the Holy Apostles Parish, with Fr. Matthew Federico officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation for Debra will be Tuesday, from 2-8pm at the Ramsey Funeral Home of Harbor Beach. Visitation on Wednesday will be at the funeral home from 9-10 am. A Parish Rosary Service will take place Tuesday, at 7 pm, in the funeral home. Please consider memorials may be given to the Harbor Beach Hospital Foundation, Eastern Huron Ambulance Services, or Sherman Township Fire Department. Memories can be shared at www.RamseyFH.com
