Emily A. Smith, age 87 of Harbor Beach, passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2022 at her daughter's home, in Central Lake, Michigan, under hospice care. She was born on February 19, 1935 in Harbor Beach, to the late Alex and Edith (Gerstenschlager) Burkhard, Sr. Emily and James Smith were united in marriage on January 10, 1952 in Angola, Indiana. He preceded her in death on October 25, 2016. Emily was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, and the Ladies Aide. She enjoyed doing arts and crafts, especially for the Bazaar, and really enjoyed her time with family and friends. She is survived by her children: Lou (Don) Buchanan of Phoenix, AZ, Steven Smith of Clinton Township, Denise Lapka of Caseville, Jody (Reid) Baker of Jacksonville, FL, Sandy (Doug) Stepanian of Central lake, Peggy Smith of Kalkaska, Tim Smith of St. Clair Shores, Bill (Dena) Smith of Harbor Beach, 19 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, son-in-law: Mike Daugherty of Bellaire, brother Alex Burkhard, Jr., of Bad Axe, sister Beverly Forstner of Durand, and sisters-in-law: Betty Burkhard of Bad Axe, Dorothy Burkhard of Harbor Beach, and Grace Burkhard of Lansing. Emily was preceded in death by her daughter Tina Daugherty, grandchildren: Zachary Smith, Alex Smith, William Payionk, daughter-in-law: Virginia Smith, and siblings: Leslie Burkhard, Robert Burkhard, Elaine LaBelle, Roland Burkhard, Harold Burkhard, Harley Burkhard, Edwin Burkhard, infant Carl Burkhard, and Delbert Burkhard. Funeral Services for Emily will be Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at 1 pm at Zion Lutheran Church with Rev. David Dodge and Rev. Seaver, officiating. Burial will follow at Rock Falls Cemetery. Visitation for Emily will be Tuesday, from 2-8 pm at the Ramsey Funeral Home of Harbor Beach. Visitation on Wednesday will be at the church from 12 noon until time of services at 1 pm. A scripture service will take place Tuesday, at 7 pm, at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Zion Lutheran Church. Memories can be shared at www.RamseyFH.com
