Marianne Gehring

Marianne (Shaltry) Gehring, 88 of Harbor Beach, MI passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at Harbor Beach Community Hospital. Marianne was born on November 8, 1934, in Saginaw, MI the oldest of twelve children born to John Lawrence (J.L.) and Frances (Cashin) Shaltry. Edward J. Gehring and Marianne Shaltry were united in marriage on April 4, 1959 at St. Anthony of Padua Retreat House in Saginaw, MI. They met at a Catholic Singles Club Dance. Together with her husband Edward, Marianne with their family, owned and operated Rock Falls Farm just south of Harbor Beach on M-25 where the family raised Registered Belgian Horses and Registered Holstein Cattle. Marianne was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church of Saginaw as a youth and graduated from Holy Family Catholic School. After marriage, Marianne and her husband Edward and family were members of Our Lady of Lake Huron (Holy Name of Mary Parish) Catholic Church of Harbor Beach. Marianne devoted her time to raising her children and worked on the family farm. She was very involved with supporting 4-H and FFA students with all types of projects including gardening and livestock. She was instrumental and assisted with the organizing and operation of the Huron Community Fair Draft Horse Show. She was especially skilled in the kitchen and enjoyed cooking for her family and others. Marianne was a Charter Member of the Thumb Blue Star Mothers and a Life Member of the Harbor Beach VFW Auxiliary Post #9344. She and her husband were members of the Thumb Draft Horse Association and Michigan Milk Producers Cooperative where they were recognized for over thirty-five (35) years of quality milk production. Marianne enjoyed Draft Horse Shows and Dairy and Beef Cattle Shows where her children and grandchildren were in the show ring. Marianne along with her husband Edward enjoyed gardening, woodworking and Purple Martin’s where Marianne kept track of the annual fledging. She was especially fond of enjoying family time at the Lake and farm “hollow”. Marianne loved visiting with family, friends and neighbors, but especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. “Buddy” her faithful companion dog will miss her. Marianne is survived by her children: Edward J. (Ellie)Gehring Jr. of Harbor Beach; Constance M. (Terrance) Kramer of Harbor Beach, Robert J. Gehring of Harbor Beach, William G. (Lenai) Gehring of Harbor Beach, Paul R. (Tracy) Gehring of Harbor Beach, Jean A. (Thomas) Booms Jr. of Port Hope, MI; Mark D. Gehring of Nashville, TN; and Joseph A. (Rhonda) Gehring of Harbor Beach. Grandchildren: Kristin (Charles) Rawlings of Cass City, MI; Ryan (Dannia) Kramer, of Harbor Beach, MI; Jenna (Justin) Gentner of Ruth, MI; Keith (Jadrianna) Kramer of Harbor Beach, MI; Aaron Gehring of Harbor Beach, MI; Brandon (Caylee) Gehring of Palms, MI; Alyssa Gehring of Harbor Beach, MI; Renee (Zac) Bolsby of Sandusky, MI; Kara (Kenny) Arntz of Ruth, MI; Jared Gehring and Kaylee Gehring of Harbor Beach, MI; Luke (Bayly) Gehring of Harbor Beach, MI; Kyle (Elaina) Booms of Port Hope, MI; Trevor Booms of Harbor Beach, MI; Tyler Booms of Grand Rapids, MI and Landon Gehring of Nashville, TN. Great Grandchildren: Derek, Rylee, Brynn, Reagan, Brielle, Logan, Madelyn, Blaine, Wesley, Asher, and Alexandria. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters: Gerald Shaltry, CA; John Shaltry PhD, Big Rapids, MI; Therese (Tom) Luplow, Zilwaukee, MI; Kathleen (Michael) Gunther, CA; Susan (Jed) Batke, Saginaw, MI; Michael Shaltry, CA. Sisters- in- law: Sharon Shaltry, Lansing, MI; Magdalene Gehring, Bridgeport, MI and her Aunt Dorothy Shaltry, East Tawas, MI. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews that she adored. Marianne was preceded in death by her husband, Edward James Gehring, Sr.; her son, Michael Joseph Gehring, her parents, John Lawrence and Frances (Cashin) Shaltry, her father and mother-in-law John H. and Edith (Zmich) Gehring, Brothers and Sister; Patty Lu Shaltry, Jacqueline (Shaltry) Knudson, Thomas Shaltry, Joseph Shaltry, and Dennis Shaltry. Brothers and Sisters in law: Sue (Percy) Shaltry, Clarence and Elizabeth (Gehring) Dutcher, Quentin and Marie (Gehring) Ryckman, Elmer and Grace (Allen) Gehring, John (Jack) Gehring. Marianne’s family is especially appreciative of the excellent care given to their mom by care givers: LuWella, Mary, Deanna, Haley and Lenai. Visitation for Marianne will be at Ramsey Funeral Home in Harbor Beach, MI on Thursday, August 24, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Friday visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. at the church until the time of service. Funeral Mass for Marianne will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 25, 2023 at Holy Name of Mary Parish; Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church, Harbor Beach, MI. Serving as Marianne’s pallbearers will be her grandsons Ryan, Aaron, Keith, Brandon, Kyle, Trevor, Luke and Jared. Funeral mass readers and gift presenters will be Marianne’s grandchildren Kristin, Jenna, Kara, Alyssa, Kaylee, Tyler, Renee’ and Landon. In lieu of flowers the family of Marianne kindly requests donations to Holy Name of Mary Parish OLLH Building Fund, The Thumb Chapter of the Blue Star Mother’s of America or Huron County Right To Life. Marianne will be interred at Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Cemetery, (Rock Falls Cemetery) Harbor Beach, MI.
