Theresa Marie Messing

Theresa M. Messing, 96 of Harbor Beach passed away Sunday, May 31, 2009 at her home with hospice care. Born on November 14, 1912 in Detroit, MI., she was the daughter of the late August and Barbara (Nowiski) Romzek. Theresa and Leonard Messing were united in marriage on June 22, 1935 in St. Anthony`s Catholic Church in Helena. Together they farmed in Sigel Township and raised their family. Leonard preceded her in death on December 11, 2007 She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church in Harbor Beach. A member of the Daughters of Isabella of Bad Axe, the Altar Society of OLLH, was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society. She enjoyed sewing and quilting for all her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and enjoyed playing cards. Theresa was a 4H Leader for many years and a member of the Sigel Extension Group. Surviving are her children: Shirley Hoffman and her husband John of Oscoda, Patricia Heleski and her husband Clarence of Ubly, Russell Messing and his wife Elizabeth of Mead, WA, Calvin Messing and his wife Sharon of Manchester, Dale Messing and his wife Diane of Taylor, TX, Bruce Messing and his wife Jeanne of Nebo, NC, and Bradley Messing and his wife Julie of Manchester. 39 grandchildren and 65 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Brothers: Ray & Delores Braun of Port Austin, Orville & Pat Braun of Harbor Beach, and Kenneth Braun of Harbor Beach, for a total of 113 living decendants. She was preceded in death by a son Leonard Messing Jr., a grandson Benjamin Messing, Sisters Agnes Romzek and Minni Romzek Susalla, and brothers: Pete Romzek, Minnie Susalla, Ralph Braun, Roman Braun, Tony Braun, Harry Braun, Wilfred Braun and Norman Braun. Brother-in-law James Shubitowski Funeral Mass for Theresa will be Thursday, June 4, 2009 at Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church of Harbor Beach at 11:30 am with Fr. Bill Spencer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation for Theresa will be Wednesday 1-5, 7-9 pm in the Ramsey Funeral Home, Inc. of Harbor Beach. Visitation on Thursday will begin in the church at 10 am until time of services. A Parish Vigil Service will take place Wednesday at 7:30 pm in the funeral home. The Daughters of Isabella will have a Rosary Service on Wednesday at 4 pm in the funeral home.
