Thomas J. Veal

Thomas John Veal, 84, of Harbor Beach, died Monday morning, Nov. 22 , 2010, in his home, after a short illness. The son of William and Victoria (Pawlowski) Veal, he was born June 23, 1926, in Detroit. He married Patricia Shubitowski on August 20, 1949, at Our Lady of Lake Huron in Harbor Beach. Thomas was a graduate of Cooley High School. He moved to Harbor Beach and worked at Schmalz Plumbing and Heating before becoming co-founder and co-owner of Veal and Kamp Plumbing and Heating, which operated from 1960 until 1984. He was a licensed master plumber. Following the sale of Veal and Kamp, Thomas worked for Ludington News until his retirement. He served on the Huron County Department of Public Works Board for many years. He was a member of Our Lady of Lake Huron parish, where he was one of the first lectors and a former usher. He enjoyed working outdoors and in his shop. He also loved spending time with his family, especially his great-grandchildren. Surviving are his wife, Patricia; a daughter, Deborah Oglenski and her husband Paul Stephen, of Harbor Beach; a son, William Veal, and his wife, Julie, of Kimball Township; granddaughters, Sarah Roberts and her husband, Nate, of Oak Park, IL, Erin Modrzynski and her husband, Kristopher, of Lexington, KY, and Claire Romzek, and her husband Gavin, of North Las Vegas, NV; two grandsons, William Jarred Veal, Marysville, and Garrett Veal, Kimball Township; six great-grandchildren, Samuel and Grace Modrzynski, Caleb and Graham Thomas Roberts, and Owen Thomas and Maxwell Romzek; and a sister, Elizabeth, and her husband John Komonowski of Elkton; brother-in-law, Leo Shubitowski and his wife, Johanna of Walpole, Mass.; two sisters-in-law, Agatha Conboy of Portland, Oregon, and Clara Turner of Huron, South Dakota; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, William Charles, in 1943. Funeral services for Thomas Veal will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church. Father William Spencer, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the Our Lady of Lake Huron Cemetery. A parish Scripture service will be Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. from the Ramsey Funeral Home in Harbor Beach, where friends may call from 1-9 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church, Heartland Hospice Memorial or the American Cancer Society.
